A bit of prep goes a long way

Preparation really is everything. A clear, realistic plan will keep your momentum going and make sure your search is time well spent. We’ve listed a few things below to get you thinking. And if you’re unsure on anything, you can always give us a call. That’s what we’re here for.

Things to ask yourself before diving in

Before you throw yourself into the hunt, take stock. This isn’t just about a new role - it’s about what’s right for you now and where you want to go next. Ask yourself:

Why do I want a change right now?

Am I still learning and progressing in my current role?

Am I being paid fairly for my level and contribution?

Does this job still align with my long-term goals?

What have I achieved in this role – and what am I ready to leave behind?

What would I like to do more of in my next role?

Do I know my strengths and gaps?

Do I need an honest outside perspective?

Remember, these are the conversations we have with candidates every day. If you’re unsure about where you stand or what you’re worth, let’s talk.

How to get set up for success

Here are a few practical steps to help get your job search off the ground:

Make sure your CV is up to date and tailored to the kind of role you’re after. If you’re unsure how to do that, we’ve got some CV tips to help.

Update your LinkedIn profile – and make it recruiter-ready. First impressions count.

Talk to a specialist recruiter (hint: that’s us). We’ll be able to help you understand the current market, your salary expectations, and what roles are genuinely a good fit.

Be honest with yourself – and your consultant – about what you want and what you’d consider.

Keep a record of where you’ve applied. You’d be surprised how often candidates forget what’s gone where.

Don’t forget to block time to prep for interviews – not just for the questions, but for researching the company and the people you’ll meet. It makes a difference.

And finally – don’t panic if things don’t happen overnight. The right move is worth waiting for, and with the right support, you won’t be waiting long.
